Tuesday Ten

Today, I have been up for 5 hours already and it feels like 2 pm, not 10 am. I swam a mile in my Advanced Swim Class and just ran 3 miles with my running buddy.  I am exhausted from spin yesterday and hardCORE, which is a 40 minute torture class of ab workouts.

10 images that remind me of the Canonsburg life:

1. Sonic Ocean Water.

A Sonic opened about 20 yards from the entrance to my parent's neighborhood.  Ocean Water is the worst choice on the menu.  Don't get it.

2.  A pool.
My parents neighborhood has a pool and I would go everyday I was not working as a lifeguard at another pool.  I miss pools and am NOT fond of the lakes here.

3. Tink.
This isn't really Tink, but I think it looks close enough.  We don't have a cat.  In fact, this is out neighbors cat. She lost her tail, so this picture isn't very accurate.

4. Yuengling.
Best. Beer. Ever. Enough said.

5. Pennsylvania Plates.
My car doesn't look quite as good without these plates.  Also, first state to put a website on their plates.  How many times have you visited the website?  Probably as many as me: 0.

6.Canonsburg 4th of July Parade.

I guarantee you have never seen anything like this.  My tiny hometown has the 2nd largest 4th of July parade, beating out Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.  Philadelphia has the biggest.  I marched this sucker every year in high school (2002-2005) and it was hotter than Hades, I can promise you that.  People line their chairs up weeks before.  In fact, I know there are already chairs out today.

7. Bobby Shawn.
That's him, in the tux.  A true Canonsburg legend.

8. Tattoos While You Wait.
A classy establishment.  You can see this as you drive down Pike Street.

9.  The Duck Pond.
I tried to find an image that does the real pond justice.  Imagine 400 more mallards in the same size pond.  That about does the trick.

10. My Family.
I had to get all cheesy on you.

Most blogs have really artsy and fancy pictures.  But Canonsburg isn't classy like that.  This is the good life.

GTKY

Upon reading other blogs I follow (if interested, check them out under my profile!), I came across a few Getting to Know You questionaires.  I come from the AIM era and grew up on these types of quizzes.  I decided to do one for you to get to know me :)

The Q's.

1. If you accidently knick a car in a parking lot..Do you leave a note or do you get the heck out of there?
Considering my boyfriend would murder me if I did this, I don't think I have a choice either way. If alone, I would run...guilty!

2. Love your body or plastic surgery?
Love my body.  Yes, I'm short and I lack a torso, which basically means I cannot wear high-waisted skirts or pants, however I love my legs because they are strong enough to carry me across a finish line, through a torturous hour of spin and can speed me across a pool when we kick, leaving all the triathlon people in the dust. :)

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?
The humor and realness.

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?
Haha, none, so far.  I only have 8 (9) posts!

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ham. I hate ham. No loss there!

6. How often to you eat out?
Far too often. My debit card cries daily. But really, once or twice a week.

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?
Boot cut jeans.  I can't Dougie in my skinny jeans. (See song: Teach Me How to Dougie and the verse "I hate skinny jeans 'cause they're bound to keep rubbin.")

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?

Still single, but if my boyfriend cheated, see ya later! And I would totally leave Wisconsin.

Country Roads, take me home...

Growing up insanely close to West Virginia made me hate that song but now I love it.  Today, I ran 3.5 miles in the country. It was pleasant, hot and felt good, except for the fly that wouldn't leave me alone.  Guess he got bored with the cows I ran by and decided to play tag with me.

I was always a solitary runner until this spring and now I'm back to running alone.  It is so hard for me to keep going.  My running mantra is so important to me now: You are stronger than you think you are.  I literally cannot get through a run without saying that.  I miss my running buddy and am struggling to find my rhythm on my own.  Once school starts again, she and I will be pounding pavement soon enough!

Happy Saturday!

Don't Wear the Event Shirt Until You Earn It

I was reading a running blog: Running...Because I Can.  It is his 33rd birthday today so he shared 33 thoughts of running.  I was shocked to read that this runner came in last in high school track events.  He is a serious runner; a marathoner, and he wasn't good at track.  I WAS THE SAME WAY. I was a part of the "slow distance" team. I often got lapped in the 2-mile.  Now, when I run a race in my hometown, my old track coach sees me and is shocked. I not only run well, but I don't come in last.

I am one of those runners who hates people who wear the race shirt to the race.  Rookie #1 mistake.  Always wear something you are comfortable in.  Everyone knows the name of the race; they are running it, too!

He also always runs races in VA, which made me think about where all I have run.  Wisconsin (2), Ohio (2), Pennsylvania (3).  I will be running in the Whiskey Rebellion in a week, so PA will have 4, and Ohio will have 3 after I run the Cbus 1/2 in October.  Now, time to find a race in Illinois!

Commit to Cbus 2011

Yesterday, I signed up for the Columbus Marathon in October 2011.  I'll be running this for the second time in my life and I hope to get 2:00:00 even.  Unfortunately, I have to start training in August, which I always find hard to do in the summer.  However, I have been waking up at 5:30AM for a swim class every Tuesday/Thursday this month.  It is REALLY hard-we swim over a mile every day!-but I am seeing awesome results.  I still spin 3 times a week and run 4 times a week.  I added an Ab class on Mondays and Thursdays.  So, what have I done with my summer break?  Not tanned, because the weather sucks, but rather worked out more than a normal person should.
